Evan Smith began practicing Taekwondo at age eight at Tygon Martial Arts in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, under Master Il Shin. He quickly developed a passion for the sport, making training a regular part of his daily life. It was at Tygon that Evan was introduced to breaking, where he discovered a love for the challenge of pushing his limits and the unmistakable feeling and sound of wood snapping beneath his strike. Evan earned his black belt on August 23, 2025. In addition to breaking, he competes in traditional and creative forms, weapons, and combat sparring.
A highlight of Evan’s breaking career came at the ISKA tournament in Orlando in July 2026, where he broke an impressive 16 boards in the 8–12-year-old male Power Foot division, setting one of the 6 yearly records he holds for his age group in 2026. For Evan, breaking is more than a test of strength; it is an opportunity to challenge himself, build confidence, and discover just how far determination can take him.
Evan currently trains at Innovate Martial Arts in Jackson, New Jersey, under Senior Master Evan Turner and Mr. Kevin Walls. He thrives on the excitement and challenge of competition and is committed to pursuing Taekwondo and breaking as lifelong passions.
Evan lives in Brick, New Jersey, with his parents, two sisters, two dogs, and a cat. He is currently in seventh grade. When he is not practicing martial arts, he enjoys playing video games with friends and exploring the outdoors.
